Job announcement – Skat is seeking a Knowledge Management Specialist (2nd round)

Skat is an independent Swiss resource centre and consultancy company working in the fields of development cooperation and humanitarian aid. Since 1978, Skat has provided technical expertise and management support, as well as training and research facilities. Over the last four years, Skat has built up profound expertise in knowledge management and networking. In order to expand our services we are seeking an experienced professional who is willing to settle in St. Gallen (Switzerland), to fill the position of:
Knowledge Management Specialist (80-100%)
The successful applicant should have a strong background in knowledge management, networking, organisational and institutional development, and capacity building.

The responsibilities of the position include:

  • Advising and coaching of international development agencies, NGOs, resource centres, and networks;
  • Developing and implementing sector-specific concepts and strategies;
  • Investigating, reviewing and documenting “best practices” in developing countries and countries in transition;
  • Facilitating and participating in national and international communities of practice and networks on knowledge management;
  • Organising workshops and conferences on knowledge management and networking;
  • Broadening activities and partnerships in the field of knowledge management;
  • International consultancies of 50-100 days per year;
  • Capacity building with strategic partners in the field of knowledge management, networking, organisational and institutional development;
  • Programme and project administration and coordination.

The qualifications required are:

  • A master level qualification (MBA) in international economics, business administration, international affairs, or communication management;
  • Practical working experience in an international context, preferably in developing countries and/or countries in transition, in development organisations, networks, or NGOs;
  • A good working knowledge of the procedures and practices of international development agencies;
  • Excellent analytical skills, a good perception, the ability to develop strategies, concepts, projects and programmes, to communicate ideas in an intelligible way, and to coach our clients in the implementation of projects;
  • Experience in acquiring new projects;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; French, Spanish and/or Russian would be an asset;
  • A working knowledge of German is an advantage as the working place and home base is St. Gallen, Switzerland;
  • Knowledge of commonly used office software (Microsoft Office) and collaborative software solutions.
